Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology
The national children's cancer centre of the Netherlands, which concentrates all Dutch paediatric oncology care and research on one Utrecht campus.
Opened in 2018, the Princess Máxima Center brought together paediatric oncology from the Dutch university hospitals into a single specialised hospital and research institute next to UMC Utrecht and the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital. Every child is offered whole-genome and transcriptome sequencing at diagnosis, and research groups led by figures such as Jarno Drost, Monique den Boer and Michel Zwaan develop tumour organoids, leukaemia genomics and early-phase drug trials through the ITCC European consortium. Alexander Eggermont serves as chief scientific officer. The centre treats leukaemias, brain tumours, neuroblastoma, sarcomas and renal tumours, offers CAR-T and transplantation, and runs one of Europe's largest paediatric cancer survivorship programmes.
