Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe

aka Hospital La Fe, IIS La Fe

Valencia's flagship public hospital, with a haematology department that shaped the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukaemia through the PETHEMA group.

La Fe is the largest hospital complex of the Valencian region and hosts the IIS La Fe research institute. Its haematology department, long led by Miguel Ángel Sanz, designed the PETHEMA protocols that established risk-adapted all-trans retinoic acid and anthracycline therapy for acute promyelocytic leukaemia and remains a reference for acute leukaemias and transplantation within Spain's PETHEMA cooperative group. The hospital runs a large medical oncology service, paediatric oncology, radiotherapy including stereotactic programmes, a nuclear medicine and PET unit and an early-phase trials unit. It is a regional hub for molecular diagnostics and hereditary cancer counselling.
