All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi

aka AIIMS, Dr B.R. Ambedkar Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital, National Cancer Institute Jhajjar

India's premier public medical institution, whose Rotary Cancer Hospital and new National Cancer Institute campus at Jhajjar anchor government cancer research and care.

AIIMS New Delhi was created by an Act of Parliament in 1956 as India's flagship medical institute and hospital. Cancer care is concentrated in the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital, opened in 1983, and in the National Cancer Institute at Jhajjar, Haryana, a large AIIMS-run cancer campus commissioned from 2019 with proton therapy planned and a national biobank and screening research mandate. AIIMS investigators lead Indian studies in paediatric oncology, gallbladder cancer (unusually common in northern India), oral and cervical cancer screening, radiation oncology and nuclear medicine (PSMA and FAPI PET, radioligand therapy), and haematology including low-cost CAR-T development with IIT Bombay partners. It sets national training standards and publishes the largest volume of oncology research of any Indian public institution.
