Philippine General Hospital

aka PGH, UP-PGH, UP Manila Cancer Institute

The Philippines' national university hospital, whose Cancer Institute is the country's main public referral centre for oncology and the site of its cancer control research.

The Philippine General Hospital opened in 1907 and is the tertiary teaching hospital of the University of the Philippines Manila and the largest government hospital in the country. Its Cancer Institute provides surgical, medical, radiation and paediatric oncology to a predominantly indigent population, hosts the Philippine Cancer Society's Manila registry collaboration, and leads national work on cervical cancer screening, HPV vaccination, breast cancer early detection and paediatric leukaemia outcomes. PGH researchers and the UP National Institutes of Health inform the National Integrated Cancer Control Act implementation, and the hospital's radiotherapy expansion and philanthropic cancer funds aim to reduce treatment abandonment.
