Instituto Nacional de Cancerología (Colombia)
Colombia's national cancer institute, responsible for cancer control policy, the national cancer observatory and specialist care in Bogotá.
The Instituto Nacional de Cancerología in Bogotá was founded in 1934 as the Instituto Nacional de Radium and is Colombia's state cancer institute, combining a specialist hospital with a public-health mandate for the national cancer control plan, cancer surveillance (the National Cancer Observatory and incidence estimates with regional registries in Cali and elsewhere) and clinical guidelines. It provides surgical, medical, radiation and paediatric oncology, runs research in cancer epidemiology, HPV and cervical cancer prevention (Colombia introduced HPV vaccination and HPV-based screening with INC studies), gastric cancer in the Andean high-risk region, and health services research, and trains specialists with the Universidad Nacional de Colombia.
