Kenyatta National Hospital

aka KNH, University of Nairobi College of Health Sciences

Kenya's national referral hospital and East Africa's largest, with the region's busiest public radiotherapy and cancer treatment centre.

Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi, founded in 1901 and Kenya's oldest and largest hospital, is the national teaching and referral hospital of the University of Nairobi and for decades hosted the only public radiotherapy service in Kenya, treating patients from across East Africa. Its Cancer Treatment Centre provides radiotherapy including brachytherapy, medical oncology, haematology and paediatric oncology, and KNH is a lead site for Kenya's national cancer control programme, the Nairobi cancer registry, cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination roll-out studies, Burkitt lymphoma and HIV-associated cancer research, and paediatric oncology twinning programmes with international partners. The hospital's newer linear accelerators and the planned Kenyatta University cancer hospital are expanding radiotherapy access.
