Institut National d'Oncologie, Rabat

The Institut National d'Oncologie Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah in Rabat opened in 1985 as Morocco's national cancer institute within the Ibn Sina University Hospital Centre (CHU Ibn Sina) and the Université Mohammed V medical school, providing surgical, medical and radiation oncology, brachytherapy, nuclear medicine and paediatric oncology as the national referral centre. With the Fondation Lalla Salma – Prévention et traitement des cancers, founded in 2005 by Princess Lalla Salma, INO has led Morocco's national cancer prevention and control plan, which built regional oncology centres, introduced free breast and cervical screening, expanded radiotherapy and palliative care and improved access to cancer medicines across the country. INO researchers publish on breast and cervical cancer in North African women, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, which is common in the Maghreb, and cancer registration for Rabat.
