The Edinburgh Cancer Centre at the Western General Hospital serves south-east Scotland with medical and clinical oncology, and sits beside the University of Edinburgh's Institute of Genetics and Cancer, which incorporates the MRC Human Genetics Unit and the CRUK Scotland Centre shared with Glasgow. David Cameron chairs the Breast International Group and leads breast cancer trials from Edinburgh, Malcolm Dunlop's group identified inherited risk variants for colorectal cancer in Scottish populations, and Steven Pollard's laboratory studies glioblastoma stem cells. The Edinburgh Breast Unit is a UK reference for oncoplastic surgery and endocrine therapy studies. The centre is a hub for cancer informatics and the Scottish population health data used in screening research.
