Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute

aka Masarykův onkologický ústav, MOÚ, MMCI

The Czech Republic's only dedicated comprehensive cancer centre, OECI-accredited and known for its RECAMO translational research centre.

The Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute opened in 1935 as the 'House of Comfort' with the support of President Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk and is the only specialised comprehensive cancer centre in the Czech Republic, accredited by the OECI. Its Regional Centre for Applied Molecular Oncology (RECAMO), founded by Bořivoj Vojtěšek, develops antibodies and biomarkers for p53 and other targets in collaboration with Edinburgh and international groups, and the institute runs the Czech phase 1 unit for academic trials under Regina Demlová. Clinical services span surgical oncology, radiotherapy with brachytherapy and stereotactic techniques, medical oncology, nuclear medicine and a large prevention and screening centre, and the institute contributes to the national cancer registry and screening programmes.
