Austrian Breast & Colorectal Cancer Study Group

aka ABCSG

Austria's academic breast and colorectal trials group, whose bone-targeted and extended endocrine therapy trials changed breast cancer practice.

Founded in 1984, ABCSG runs academic trials through Austria's hospitals and partners with the Breast International Group and the US groups on global studies. ABCSG-12 (zoledronic acid with ovarian suppression in premenopausal breast cancer) and ABCSG-18 (adjuvant denosumab) made bone-targeted agents part of adjuvant care, and ABCSG-16 defined how long extended aromatase inhibitor therapy should last. It co-led PALLAS, the adjuvant palbociclib trial, with Alliance Foundation Trials and BIG. Colorectal and pancreatic trials run through the same network.
