Istituto di Candiolo IRCCS – FPO
Piedmont's cancer institute near Turin, a world reference for colorectal cancer genomics, patient-derived xenografts and MET biology.
The Candiolo Cancer Institute is a private not-for-profit IRCCS run by the Fondazione Piemontese per l'Oncologia with the University of Turin. Paolo Comoglio's laboratory discovered and characterised the MET oncogene, Livio Trusolino and Andrea Bertotti built a large colorectal cancer patient-derived xenograft platform ('xenopatients') that identified HER2 amplification as a target and led to the HERACLES trial of trastuzumab plus lapatinib, and Alberto Bardelli's group pioneered liquid biopsy tracking of resistance to anti-EGFR therapy. The hospital provides surgery, radiotherapy, medical oncology and a phase 1 unit, and hosts a large biobank and a molecular tumour board for the Piedmont network.
