Hospital del Mar and the Hospital del Mar Research Institute (formerly IMIM) form a cancer programme with Universitat Pompeu Fabra and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Joaquín Arribas, director of the institute, characterised the truncated p95HER2 receptor and developed CAR-T and T-cell engager approaches against it, and Joan Albanell's medical oncology group is a leading breast cancer trialist within the SOLTI network. The hospital runs a comprehensive cancer service including radiotherapy, hepatobiliary surgery and haematology, an early-phase unit, and population cancer epidemiology through its public health research groups.
