Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota
Birthplace of the first successful human bone marrow transplant (1968) and a leader in NK cell therapy and tobacco carcinogenesis research.
NCI comprehensive since 1998, the Masonic Cancer Center inherits the University of Minnesota's transplant legacy: Robert Good performed the first successful human bone marrow transplant here in 1968, and John Wagner's group pioneered unrelated cord blood transplantation. Jeffrey Miller's programme ran the first haploidentical natural killer cell infusions in leukaemia and now partners with Fate Therapeutics on iPSC-derived NK products; Daniel Vallera's tri-specific killer engagers extend the NK concept. Stephen Hecht's laboratory defined the tobacco-specific carcinogens and biomarkers used in tobacco regulation. Clinical care is delivered through M Health Fairview.
