Institut Pasteur
The historic Paris research institute founded by Louis Pasteur, whose cancer work centres on tumour viruses, immunology and the microbiome.
Founded in 1887, the Institut Pasteur is a private foundation known for microbiology, immunology and ten Nobel laureates, including the 2008 prize for the discovery of HIV. Its Cancer Initiative gathers units working on oncogenic viruses (HPV, hepatitis B, EBV), tumour immunology, cell biology of metastasis, the gut microbiome and cancer, and computational biology, and it collaborates with Institut Curie and Gustave Roussy through Paris-area programmes. The institute also trains scientists from a worldwide network of Pasteur institutes, several of which run cancer registries and HPV programmes in low-income countries.
