HOVON

aka Haemato Oncology Foundation for Adults in the Netherlands, Stichting Hemato-Oncologie voor Volwassenen Nederland

The Dutch-Belgian adult haematology trials group, one of Europe's largest engines of leukaemia, myeloma and lymphoma phase 3 trials.

Founded in 1985 and coordinated from Rotterdam, HOVON runs trials across the Netherlands, Belgium and partner countries, often jointly with the Swiss SAKK and the German and Nordic groups. Its AML trials defined intensive induction, consolidation and transplant strategies in adults and the elderly, HOVON-65/GMMG-HD4 established bortezomib in myeloma induction and maintenance, and HOVON lymphoma and CLL studies contribute to European standards. HOVON participates in the European Myeloma Network trials and runs a national data centre and biobank. Most Dutch adults with acute leukaemia are treated within or according to a HOVON protocol.
