Japanese oncology guidelines (JSMO, JSCO and organ societies)
The JSMO and JSCO guidelines are Japan's oncology guidelines, especially strong for gastric, oesophageal, liver and biliary cancers where Japanese trials set global standards (D2 gastrectomy, S-1, endoscopic resection), and for Japan's own approvals through PMDA.
Japanese organ societies publish some of the most detailed surgical and endoscopic guidelines in oncology (JGCA gastric cancer treatment guidelines, 6th edition 2021; Japan Esophageal Society; JSH hepatocellular carcinoma), reflecting trials such as JCOG9501, ACTS-GC, SPIRITS and JCOG1109. Drug availability differs (S-1, nedaplatin, TAS-102 origin), and PMDA approvals sometimes precede FDA (e.g. entrectinib, nivolumab for gastric cancer, cabozantinib-nivolumab). JSMO's clinical guidance on comprehensive genomic profiling underpins Japan's national reimbursement of CGP panels (2019).
