Japanese Society of Medical Oncology

aka JSMO, 日本臨床腫瘍学会

Japan's medical oncology society, which certifies Japan's medical oncologists, holds a large annual meeting and publishes clinical guidelines with the Japan Society of Clinical Oncology.

Founded in 2002 from the earlier Japanese Society of Medical Oncology study group, JSMO established medical oncology as a board-certified specialty in Japan and now has more than 10,000 members. Its annual meeting, held in English and Japanese, presents Japanese trial data and hosts joint sessions with ASCO, ESMO and the Korean and Chinese societies, and it publishes guidelines on cancer genomic profiling, molecular testing, febrile neutropenia and antiemetics together with the Japan Society of Clinical Oncology. JSMO has been central to Japan's national programme of comprehensive genomic profiling under public insurance and to the certification of core cancer genomic medicine hospitals.
