Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center
North Carolina's third NCI comprehensive centre, a national research base for cancer control and survivorship and a pioneer of tumour organoids.
NCI comprehensive since 1990, the Wake Forest Baptist centre is now part of Atrium Health, giving it reach across the Carolinas and Georgia. It hosts one of the NCI Community Oncology Research Program's research bases, running national trials on cancer-related cognitive impairment, survivorship and supportive care. Its radiation oncology group is known for brain metastasis radiosurgery, and the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine builds patient tumour organoids and tumour-on-a-chip systems for drug testing. Director Boris Pasche studies TGF-beta signalling and colorectal cancer.
