European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology

aka ESTRO

Europe's radiation oncology society, running the ESTRO congress, a school that trains much of the world's radiotherapy workforce, and the standards behind brachytherapy and adaptive radiotherapy.

Founded in 1980, ESTRO represents radiation oncologists, physicists, radiobiologists and radiation therapists across Europe and beyond. Its annual congress is the main European venue for radiotherapy trials, its ESTRO School has taught courses for decades across the world, and it publishes Radiotherapy & Oncology (the Green Journal), Clinical and Translational Radiation Oncology and physics and technical journals. ESTRO consensus guidelines on target volume delineation, GEC-ESTRO brachytherapy recommendations and its ACROP practice guidelines are used globally, and its HERO project quantifies the gap between radiotherapy need and capacity in Europe. ESTRO Vision 2030 argues for radiotherapy for every patient who needs it.
