Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute
The University of Manchester's cancer research institute next to The Christie, a world leader in liquid biopsy and small-cell lung cancer models under Caroline Dive.
Founded as the Paterson Laboratories of the Christie Hospital and renamed the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute in 2013, the institute moved into the rebuilt Paterson Building in 2023 after the 2017 fire. Director Caroline Dive's group pioneered circulating tumour cell-derived explant models of small-cell lung cancer and leads the ctDNA work of TRACERx with the Crick, and the institute anchors the Manchester Cancer Research Centre partnership and the CRUK Lung Cancer Centre of Excellence with UCL. Other groups study cancer inflammation, systems oncology, skin cancer, leukaemia biology and drug discovery. Its position within The Christie's campus gives rapid translation into early-phase trials.
