Add-Aspirin
Add-Aspirin is an 11,000-patient trial across four common cancers in the UK, Ireland and India asking whether cheap daily aspirin after curative treatment stops cancer coming back.
Add-Aspirin is a phase 3, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with four parallel tumour-specific cohorts (breast, colorectal, gastro-oesophageal, prostate), each powered separately for disease-free or biochemical recurrence-free survival, with overall survival as a key secondary endpoint. Recruitment ran from 2015 across more than 100 UK sites plus Ireland and India (Tata Memorial), reaching its target of around 11,000 participants; a feasibility analysis (Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology 2020) confirmed acceptable safety, including in older participants. Primary analyses are expected in the second half of the 2020s as events accrue. The trial's public funding and generic drug are the model for repurposing research that industry will not run; its PIK3CA-stratified analysis will be the first replication test for ALASCCA.
