Oral SERD
An oral SERD is a pill that destroys the oestrogen receptor rather than just blocking it, replacing the monthly fulvestrant injection.
Selective oestrogen receptor degraders taken orally: elacestrant (2023), imlunestrant (2025), camizestrant (2026), giredestrant (filed), with palazestrant and others behind. Benefit as monotherapy is confined to ESR1-mutant disease; combination with CDK4/6 or everolimus extends benefit to wild-type tumours (EMBER-3, evERA). Upfront replacement of aromatase inhibitors in unselected first-line disease failed in persevERA. Adjuvant results (lidERA) are positive.
