Worldwide Cancer Research

aka Association for International Cancer Research, AICR

A Scottish charity that funds early-stage discovery research on cancer anywhere in the world, rather than only in the UK.

Founded in 1979 in St Andrews as the Association for International Cancer Research, Worldwide Cancer Research funds curiosity-driven basic and discovery science on any cancer in any country, on the principle that breakthroughs come from unexpected places. Its grants typically support three-year laboratory projects at universities and institutes across Europe, North America, Australia and beyond. The charity has funded more than 2,000 projects since its founding and highlights alumni whose early work later underpinned drugs and diagnostics. It is now headquartered in Edinburgh.
