Mays Cancer Center at UT Health San Antonio
Host of the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium and heir to the CTRC phase 1 institute that first tested many of oncology's drugs; NCI-designated since 1991.
Mays Cancer Center descends from the Cancer Therapy & Research Center, NCI-designated since 1991, whose Institute for Drug Development under Daniel Von Hoff conducted early trials of gemcitabine, nab-paclitaxel and many other agents. UT Health San Antonio founded the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium in 1977, now the world's largest breast cancer meeting, co-hosted with the AACR and Baylor's Smith Breast Center. The centre serves South Texas's predominantly Latino population, with Amelie Ramirez's Salud America! programme addressing Latino cancer disparities, and hosts the Greehey Children's Cancer Research Institute. It is an MD Anderson affiliate and has strengths in myeloproliferative neoplasms and breast oncology.
