The V Foundation for Cancer Research

aka V Foundation, Jimmy V Foundation

The US charity founded by ESPN and coach Jim Valvano that funds translational and early-career cancer research, with every donated dollar going to grants.

Founded in 1993 by ESPN and basketball coach Jim Valvano shortly before his death, the V Foundation funds cancer research through Translational Grants, V Scholar awards for early-career investigators, Designated Grants and the Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund for minority researchers and health disparities. Grants are peer-reviewed by a scientific advisory committee of leading oncologists and awarded at NCI-designated cancer centres and comparable institutions. Fundraising through ESPN's V Week, the Dick Vitale Gala and the Jimmy V Classic makes it one of the most visible cancer research charities in the United States.
