Make a two-minute mouth cancer check part of every dental visit
Dentists see the mouth more than any doctor. A standard, recorded oral cancer examination with a referral route would catch cancers earlier at almost no cost.
Oral and oropharyngeal cancers are rising (HPV) and often present late despite being visible. Propose a mandated, coded oral mucosal examination at each dental check for adults aged 40 and over, with photo documentation and a referral pathway, evaluated by stage distribution.
Hypothesis
Mandated recorded oral examinations increase stage I-II oral cancer diagnosis by at least 10 percentage points within five years.
Rationale
Dentists already do it inconsistently; coding and a pathway create accountability and data.

Bottlenecks it attacks
- Most lethal cancers are found late · Screening exists for only a few cancers. Pancreatic, ovarian, liver, oesophageal and most lung cancers are found when cure is unlikely.
- Prevention we already have is not deployed · Around four in ten cancers are preventable with tools we already own: vaccines, tobacco control, weight, alcohol, sun and infection control.
