Oxaliplatin

The platinum drug that works in bowel cancer where cisplatin does not, the 'OX' in FOLFOX and CAPOX; its cost is nerve damage in hands and feet.

Approved EU 1996, US 2002 (second line, then adjuvant colon after MOSAIC 2004). FOLFOX/CAPOX backbone in colorectal, gastro-oesophageal (FLOT), pancreatic (FOLFIRINOX), biliary (second line), appendiceal and neuroendocrine (CAPTEM alternatives). IDEA (2018) showed 3 months of CAPOX suffices for low-risk stage III colon cancer, limiting neuropathy.
