USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center
One of the original eight NCI comprehensive cancer centres (1973), a leader in GI oncology trials, cancer epigenetics and multi-ethnic epidemiology.
USC Norris was among the first eight centres to receive NCI comprehensive designation in 1973. Peter Jones's work here on 5-azacytidine and DNA methylation in the early 1980s founded the field of cancer epigenetic therapy. Heinz-Josef Lenz leads GI oncology and SWOG colorectal trials, and the Multiethnic Cohort Study run with the University of Hawai'i is one of the largest studies of cancer risk across ethnic groups. The centre serves Los Angeles County's diverse population and runs a broad early-phase trial programme.
