University Hospital Southampton / Centre for Cancer Immunology
Southampton's university hospital and the UK's first purpose-built cancer immunology centre, known for antibody engineering and lymphoma trials.
University Hospital Southampton is the tertiary cancer centre for central southern England, and the University of Southampton opened the Centre for Cancer Immunology in 2018, describing it as the UK's first dedicated centre of its kind. Martin Glennie and Mark Cragg's antibody groups defined how Fc receptors and antibody isotype govern anti-CD20, anti-CD40 and other immunomodulatory antibodies, and Peter Johnson led the RATHL trial that established PET-adapted treatment for advanced Hodgkin lymphoma. The Southampton Clinical Trials Unit and CRUK Southampton Centre run national trials in lymphoma, lung and gastrointestinal cancers and in DNA and peptide vaccines. The hospital houses a large children's oncology service and a Wessex regional genomics laboratory.
