New Jersey's only NCI comprehensive cancer centre, which opened the state's first free-standing cancer hospital in 2025 with RWJBarnabas Health.
NCI-designated in 1997 and comprehensive since 2002, Rutgers Cancer Institute is New Jersey's only NCI comprehensive centre and works with RWJBarnabas Health across the state. The Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center, New Jersey's first free-standing cancer hospital, opened in New Brunswick in 2025. Research strengths include precision medicine and genomic tumour boards, Eileen White's foundational work on autophagy and cancer metabolism, neuroendocrine and adrenal tumours under director Steven Libutti, and the ScreenNJ statewide screening initiative. Christian Hinrichs moved his HPV-targeted TCR-T programme here from the NCI.
