National Taiwan University Hospital
Taiwan's leading academic hospital and the birthplace of the hepatitis B vaccination programme that cut childhood liver cancer, with a new dedicated cancer centre.
NTUH, founded in 1895, is the teaching hospital of National Taiwan University College of Medicine and opened the National Taiwan University Cancer Center in 2019 with proton therapy. NTU investigators led the world's first national hepatitis B vaccination programme and the epidemiological studies (Ding-Shinn Chen, Mei-Hwei Chang) demonstrating its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma incidence, and its liver, lung (James Chih-Hsin Yang's EGFR trials including LUX-Lung and FLAURA), breast (Ann-Lii Cheng, Chiun-Shen Huang) and haematology groups are among Asia's most cited. Pei-Jer Chen and Ann-Lii Cheng have led global HCC trials of sorafenib, lenvatinib and atezolizumab-bevacizumab. The hospital runs Taiwan's largest cell therapy and transplant programmes and an early-phase unit.
