Chromogranin A
Chromogranin A is a protein released by neuroendocrine cells and measured in blood to follow tumour burden; it is unreliable because acid-reducing drugs and kidney disease also raise it.
Sensitivity ~60-90% for metastatic NET; false positives with proton-pump inhibitors, renal impairment, atrophic gastritis. Trending is more useful than single values; the NETest (multi-gene blood transcript assay) is a proposed replacement.
