Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University

aka Lurie Cancer Center

Chicago's Northwestern cancer centre, a world leader in brain tumour therapy from Tumour Treating Fields to ultrasound opening of the blood-brain barrier.

NCI-designated since 1993 and comprehensive since 1997, the Lurie Cancer Center is anchored at Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Chicago's Streeterville campus. Roger Stupp, who defined the temozolomide chemoradiation standard for glioblastoma, led the EF-14 trial that brought Tumour Treating Fields (Optune) into first-line glioblastoma care; Adam Sonabend's team has shown that implantable ultrasound can open the blood-brain barrier to deliver chemotherapy and antibodies. Other strengths include breast oncology (William Gradishar), haematologic malignancies, prostate cancer and cancer survivorship research. The centre serves the Chicago metropolitan area through Northwestern Medicine's regional network.
