Lagos University Teaching Hospital

Lagos University Teaching Hospital was founded in 1962 as the teaching hospital of the University of Lagos College of Medicine and is one of Nigeria's foremost tertiary hospitals. In 2019 it opened the NSIA-LUTH Cancer Centre, a public-private partnership with the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority that brought multiple linear accelerators and brachytherapy to a country that had long suffered from broken radiotherapy machines, making it West Africa's most advanced radiotherapy centre alongside chemotherapy and surgical oncology services. LUTH researchers contribute to studies of breast cancer in Nigerian women (including the genetic work with the University of Chicago showing high rates of aggressive and hereditary disease), prostate cancer, cervical cancer screening and paediatric oncology, and the hospital hosts oncology fellowship training for Nigeria.
