Canada's federal health department and drug regulator, which authorises cancer medicines and works with the provinces and Canada's Drug Agency on reimbursement.
Health Canada's Health Products and Food Branch reviews and authorises drugs, biologics, radiopharmaceuticals and devices for the Canadian market, with priority review and Notice of Compliance with Conditions pathways for serious diseases including cancer. It is a founding participant in Project Orbis and the Access Consortium and has aligned its review with health technology assessment through the aligned review process with Canada's Drug Agency (formerly CADTH) and the pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance, which negotiates prices for the provinces. Health Canada also funds the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and regulates tobacco and cannabis, both relevant to cancer prevention.
