Chang Gung Memorial Hospital
Taiwan's largest hospital system, with a very high cancer patient volume, a proton centre and world-leading head and neck and oral cancer programmes.
Founded in 1976 by Formosa Plastics' Wang Yung-ching, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital's Linkou flagship is the largest hospital in Taiwan and one of the largest in Asia, with branches in Kaohsiung, Keelung, Chiayi and Taipei. Its oncology strengths reflect Taiwan's disease burden: oral cavity and head and neck cancer (betel-quid related) including microvascular reconstruction, hepatocellular carcinoma and liver transplantation at Kaohsiung Chang Gung, and lung, breast and lymphoma trials. Linkou opened Taiwan's first proton therapy centre in 2015 and has since been a leading proton site for HCC and paediatric tumours. The hospital's research institute is active in cancer genomics, immunotherapy and health services research using Taiwan's national insurance data.
