Cancer Care Alberta (Alberta Health Services)

aka Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Cross Cancer Institute

Alberta's provincial cancer programme, anchored by Calgary's new Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre and Edmonton's Cross Cancer Institute, birthplace of the linac-MR.

Cancer Care Alberta is the province-wide cancer programme of Alberta Health Services, running two tertiary centres, the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Calgary (opened in 2024, replacing the Tom Baker Cancer Centre) and the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, plus regional and community sites, the Alberta Cancer Registry and provincial screening programmes. Gino Fallone's team at the Cross Cancer Institute built the world's first prototype hybrid linear accelerator-MRI, the origin of the rotating-biplanar linac-MR concept, and Edmonton's cyclotron and PET programme was an early producer of radiotracers. Calgary's University of Calgary spawned Oncolytics Biotech's reovirus therapy, and Alberta's trial units are major contributors to the Canadian Cancer Trials Group. Provincial data systems support real-world outcome studies.
